CL man dies after Island Lake crash

ISLAND LAKE – A 24-year-old Crystal Lake man died Wednesday afternoon after a motorcycle collision in Island Lake.

The man was riding a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle when it collided with a 2001 GMC Jimmy near the intersection of Route 176 and Hale Lane around 1 p.m., according to a news release from the Island Lake Police Department.

Police withheld the names of both people involved.

The 24-year-old was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry, where he later died. He wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.

The driver of the GMC, a 46-year-old from Island Lake, wasn't injured but was cited for failure to yield, police said.

The accident shut down Route 176 for 3.5 hours.

Island Lake police officials asked the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team to help with the investigation. Members of the Wauconda Fire Department also responded the accident.
